The Norman Hackerman Advanced Research Program “NHARP” from the Texas Higher Eduction Coordinating Board “THECB” is a very popular biennial funding opportunity within the State of Texas. During the last submission window TEES submitted 137 pre-proposals.

This year the program will provide $16.4 million in awards to selected projects that support “Texas faculty through the provision of individual basic research grants in specific target areas. The program supports basic research and helps attract and retain the best undergraduate and graduate students and researchers to Texas higher education institutions.

Highlights:

  • No limit on the number of pre-proposals or proposals that may be
    submitted by institution
  • Portion of awards must be used to support undergraduate
    research at general academic institutions and undergraduate or
    graduate research at health-related institutions.
  • Institutional collaborations are encouraged
  • Pre-proposal required
  • Award amounts vary by target research area:
    • Up to $200,000 for Biological Science, Chemistry,
      Engineering, and Materials Science/Nanoscience
    • Up to $150,000 for Computer Science, Earth Sciences,
      Mathematics, and Physics/Astronomy
  • Budget may include up to $3,000 for faculty summer salary.

Schedule:

  • 9/15/2009 – All investigators must be registered at arpatp.com
  • 9/15/2009 – Pre-proposals must be submitted
  • 11/30/2009 – Invitations to submit full proposals announced
  • 1/15/2010 – Full proposals due
  • 4/29/2010 – Awards announced
