Starting January 1, 2009, the Human Subjects’ Protection Program (HSPP) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Texas A&M University will no longer accept the combination of VPR and NIH training. The only training accepted will be the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) course. All new Initial Review or Continuing Review applications will not be reviewed without submission of a CITI completion report.

– Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER)–

TEES Strategic Research Development and the TAMU RGS Office of Proposal Development are co-sponsoring a workshop on the NSF CAREER program, specifically aimed at faculty from TAMU System institutions and TEES divisions. Program requirements and proposal-writing strategies will be discussed, along with specific strategies for faculty at predominately undergraduate institutions.

The Human Subjects’ Protection Program (HSPP) and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) will be implementing new training requirements in the coming year. Currently, training through the Division of Research and Graduate Studies and the National Institutes of Health have sufficed for human subjects’ training, but as of January 1, 2009, only the Collaborative Institution Training Initiative (CITI) course will be accepted. Investigators will be required to submit CITI completion with new Initial or Continuing Review Applications.
Also starting January 1st, the CITI refresher course will be implemented. The refresher course is similar to the initial CITI course, but it is more condensed and has more complicated scenarios. The refresher course will be required two years from the date of Investigators’ CITI course completion.

Researchers using hazardous materials must complete U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) training before transporting, shipping, receiving, handling or storing hazardous materials, under the new TEES procedures in effect at September 01, 2008 for FY-2009. “A Huge Success”
On June 24, 2008, TEES Fiscal Office and the Office of Sponsored Research, hosted The TEES Expenditure Compliance Workshop. It was a great opportunity for Regional Division personnel to meet the TEES personnel who handle the daily paperwork for vouchers, travel, property inventory, purchasing, etc. Regional personnel were also given the chance to network with each other. The 30 participants arrived from destinations as far apart of the Texas Panhandle to the Coast.
